By the time most kittens are old enough to leave their foster homes with RescueCats, they have all been tested for FIV/FeLV, treated for worms, fleas & ear mites, if necessary, spayed/neutered & immunized as appropriate for their age. All of which would cost over $200 if paid directly to a vet. See the example vet care receipt below. Note the receipt below doesn't show the charge for blood work, deworming, flea treatment & booster shots. Our $110+ adoption fee is a great bargain for you and helps defray the costs of care for the cats.
Why adopt from RescueCats & pay the adoption fee when you can get a cat from a kill shelter for only $5? Typically, cats from kill shelters have not been tested for infectious diseases, are unimmunized, receive NO vet care, even when obviously sick, never treated for fleas, worms or ear mites, nor have they been spayed/neutered.
Even if a shelter gives a voucher for a spay/neuter, paying for the other necessary & appropriate vet care will cost you approximately $200+. While we never guarantee the health of our cats, we strive to have them in the healthiest possible condition. Please Note: We frequently accept cats, especially pregnant moms or moms with kittens, from shelters with very limited holding periods/high kill rates & do not receive any funds for taking in these cats. This is made possible only through donations, plus surrender & adoption fees. Our adoption fees start at $110 & you get a kitty who has been tested for FeLV/FIV, fully or partially immunized (depending on the age of the cat), treated for fleas, worms & ear mites if needed, examined by a vet plus spayed or neutered. Now that you know what a bargain you are getting by adopting from RescueCats, please consider making a donation in addition to paying the adoptions fee. Help us to continue to save the lives of kitties from kill shelters. |
